A scene from the annual art fair in North Chicago painted in the last year of the artists’ life. A caricature of sorts of local artist friends of Grell’s that he knew from the Tree Studios artist colony and other famous artists. Grell painted Friedl and himself into this painting; can you find them? Is that Macena Barton holding the fish? Is Van Gogh painting at his easel? Grell put the moderns on the left and the primitives on the right in the background! Included is a c1960 picture of the actual art fair to compare to Grell’s imagineered version.
